from: The Truth About Nutrition And Weight Loss
For most of us, good nutrition and weight loss are things that go hand in hand. For people who are keen on losing some of their extra weight, the first step is to start eating right. But the truth is that good nutrition alone cannot help in losing weight. A healthy nutrition regime combined with good eating habits and exercise is the complete way in which to tackle weight loss.
Before starting on a weight loss program, it is important to understand the role that good nutrition plays in losing weight. In most cases, obesity and weight gain can be directly linked to bad nutrition, often in combination with irregular eating patterns as well as lack of physical exercise. Before shelling out money for a diet plan or weight loss regime, there are a number of things that you can do to improve your nutritional intake.
The Joy of Eating
One of the most important aspects of good nutrition is to discover the real joy of eating. This does not refer to eating excessively but rather enjoying the very act of eating. This can be done by setting aside strict timings for eating- no matter what happens, make sure that you follow this schedule. When eating, try to relax and enjoy your food- half-closing your eyes while chewing your food often helps. By forgetting your problems and enjoying your food thoroughly, your food is digested completely, thus reducing the risk of a between-meal binge.
Another important aspect to keep in mind is that foods in low nutritional value may taste good but they do not effectively quell hunger. This increases the urge to snack between meals and leads to low energy levels as well as excessive weight gain. Learn to enjoy energy-rich foods that are rich in nutritional value and cut down on your junk food intake.
Sugar and Spice
Weight gain is often the result of the excessive intake of foods that contain empty calories, like refined white sugar or refined carbohydrates. Deep-fried foods and a number of spicy dishes will more often than not result in adding pounds rather than adding nutritional value to your diet. Try to cut your sugar intake by snacking on nutritious foods like fresh vegetables or nuts, which are rich in protein. Rather than eating deep fried food, try eating grilled or broiled dishes, which preserve more of the food’s natural nutrients.
Another important aspect to consider is learning to avoid using food as a means of comfort. Many people turn to sugary or deep-fried foods when they are upset, depressed or even angry. This often leads to excessive eating or binging, which can be catastrophic in terms of weight gain and bad nutrition.
Good nutrition is not the only part of a successful weight loss program but it certainly plays an important role. By adapting good eating habits and cutting out nutritionally-detrimental foods from your diet, you can confidently start out on the path to triumphant weight loss.
