If the child does not take nutritious food, his body defenses such as the immune system will not build up adequately and he will become more prone to diseases. If the health of your child is of prime importance to you, it’s essential that you take good care and provide him with the necessary amount of nutritious foods.

It’s also necessary that you do not go overboard in feeding your children leading to obesity. It’s essential that only the right amount of balanced food that gives proper nutrition is given to the kids. If you are not aware of the right types of food that should be given to your children, you should consult a pediatrician who will give you a diet-health-weight chart or a nutrition chart. You should follow this chart and control the eating habits of your children so that they do not get attracted towards junk food.

Children, like adults, need all types of nutrients in balanced quantities. These nutrients include iron, protein, vitamin A and calcium. The calorie requirements of a growing child are also to be taken into consideration while choosing the nutrition that the child needs. The appetite of the child might vary from time to time but as a general rule, 1300 calories are needed by a 3 year old every day, 2000 calories by a 10 year old and about 2800 calories might be needed by an adolescent. These figures might vary depending upon weight, height and level of activity.

Your child also needs fruits and vegetables, especially when it gets hungry in between meals. It’s preferable to feed them with bright colored vegetables, carrots and broccoli rather than fried potato chips. Whole grain products are necessary for providing the iron that the child needs. It’s also necessary to ensure that the child takes plenty of water. The quantity of food that the child is given should be determined in accordance with the advice of the doctor so that proper nutrition is made available.
