If you are thinking about going on a diet program, it is better if you take into consideration certain factors. First of all take a look at the kind of claim a particular diet program is making. Check out how it uses vitamins and nutritional supplements. There are many diet programs that offer their nutritional supplements as the ultimate “wonder drug” in weight loss.

These “wonder drugs” often cause serious side effects. Some of these nutritional supplements do lead to rapid weigh loss. However, at the end of the diet program many of the users regain the lost weight and sometimes even more. Many health experts also argue that losing weight fast is not healthy way of looking after your health. So never go for diet programs that make outlandish claims.

Natural Or Synthetic
Check to see whether the diet program is using natural or synthetic nutritional supplements. Natural nutritional supplements are easily absorbed by the body and are more effective than synthetic nutritional supplements. The only factor going in favor of synthetic nutritional supplements is their low cost, which attracts many consumers. It is better if you check with your nutritionist before you take any synthetic nutritional supplement.

A good diet program will have proteins, carbohydrates, and fat in right proportion. It has been found that many popular diet plans deprive women of much needed calcium by banning dairy products in their diets. Their argument is that dairy products are fattening. These low calcium diets often lead to osteoporosis in women and after a certain point they lead to weight gain rather than weight loss. Low calcium diet leads to the production of Calcitriol, the hormone which triggers the production of fat cells. Production of Calcitriol is the body’s way of conserving calcium. When you have proper calcium in your diet, your body will be burning existing fat cells. Since your body will no longer be producing more fat cells, you will end up losing weight.

A healthy diet program provides for balanced nutrition and also advocates proper exercise regime. Your weight loss goal can be easily achieved by combining a healthy diet with healthy living.
